The Role of the Committee
The Sacramento Youth Action Board (YAB) is a formal committee of the Sacramento Continuum of Care (CoC) Board, composed of young people who bring firsthand experience and insight into homelessness. Membership is open to youth and young adults ages 18 to 28 at the time of appointment, and at least two-thirds of members must be currently or formerly experiencing homelessness.
The YAB advises the CoC Board on system-wide policies and strategies to resolve youth homelessness. Members contribute to the development of key initiatives across the homelessness response system, including:
- Shaping the Coordinated Community Plan to prevent and end youth homelessness
- Informing the design and outreach methods used during the Point-in-Time (PIT) Count
- Participating in the work of other CoC committees, such as the Coordinated Access System Committee, Project Review Committee, and System Performance Committee, to ensure youth needs are reflected in decisions
Two seats on the CoC Board and one on the Governance Committee are designated for YAB members.
