Homeless Outreach Manager
Gabrielle Salazar is the Outreach Manager for Sacramento Steps Forward. In this role she leads the Outreach Team’s daily operations, recruitment and hiring, staff training and competency, program integrity and improvement, client and partner relations, and overall housing success.
She directly manages outreach workers who are contracted with Sutter Health, Dignity Health, CARES Community Clinic, Sacramento Public Library, City of Rancho Cordova, Regional Transit, Sacramento Downtown Partnership, Midtown Business Association, Florin Road Partnership, Mack Road Partnership, River District, and the County Sherriff’s Smart Policing Initiative.
Initially hired by Sacramento Steps Forward as an Outreach Worker in the River District, Salazar was promoted to Team Lead after demonstrating her compassionate ability to work with and house some of the most chronically homeless individuals in Sacramento.
As Team Lead, she guided her staff using her newly formed best practices and built a new healthcare specific outreach model which is currently in use today at CARES Community Clinic, Sutter Health, and Dignity Health. Thanks to the success of this program, she was again promoted to be the Interim Continuum of Care Manager and then to her current position as Outreach Manager.
Prior to joining Sacramento Steps Forward, Salazar was a Respite Service Coordinator at TLCS where she worked with individuals in mental health crisis, most of whom were homeless, providing crisis counseling and resources to help de-escalate crisis and prevent future crisis.
Salazar is a certified as a Mental Health First Aid Train-the-Trainer and has completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-ACT), and Motivational Interviewer Training.
Salazar is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz and currently lives in the City of Sacramento.
