"I was invited to join the SSF Board of Directors by the former CEO after timing out of my term on the CoC Advisory Board. It was a great opportunity to continue contributing, not just as the Chief Operating Officer of Cottage Housing, but also as someone with lived experience of homelessness.

Being able to bring both professional and personal perspectives to the table means a lot to me. I know what it’s like to be on the streets, and now I have the privilege of sitting alongside decision-makers, helping to shape strategies."
David Husid
SSF Board Secretary, and
Chief Operating Officer, Cottage Housing, Inc.
"My commitment to addressing the housing and homeless crisis in Sacramento County, coupled with my strong support for SSF's mission, led me to volunteer as a Board Member. Serving in this role has allowed me to actively organize and facilitate collaborative efforts, directly contributing to meaningful solutions for our community's most vulnerable."
Angela Upshaw
SSF Board Member-at-Large,
and Chief Program Officer, Insight Housing, Inc.

We get these questions a lot. Here are our best answers...

Are SSF Board meetings open to the public?

Board meetings are for the purpose of organizational management and are not open to the public. The Board may choose to report out or otherwise engage the community as appropriate.

How do you join the Board?

Applications to serve on the SSF Board are accepted in the fall for two-year terms that begin in January of each year. This process is publicized in our monthly newsletter.

Board members are volunteers and are not compensated for their participation. They meet at least quarterly as a full group and, also, typically serve on committees that support various functions of the Board, such as executive and financial management.

How does the Board help to resolve homelessness?

Board members provide Sacramento Steps Forward with expertise, skills, and knowledge that contribute to our capacity to implement our work to present and resolve homelessness for Sacramento. As a whole and individually, they provide critical strategic insight and essential counsel to direct and manage SSF in achieving this goal.
